DESIKAR THIRUMALIGAI
It is quite unfortunate that a controversy has arisen over this and all Sri Vaishnavites should know what is going on in Sri Rangam. The said building is in the possession of Sri Parakala Mutt since last century. This building ( 116, North Uthira Street ) has no ‘heritage’ value at all except for a few stone pillars found here and there. Some of the locals who were occupying this premises all this time are now refusing to vacate as the Mutt has proposed to make some structural changes necessitated by the present circumstances. These over-jealous ones have filed a suit against H.H. Jeer of Mutt as if the Jeer ventured to do away with the ‘heritage’ of the building. They pretend that as if they are the saviors of this structure which looks modern with no reminiscences of Desikar days. Their sole aim is not to slip their possession out of their hands. They are hiding the truths and they are making wrong propaganda indulging themselves in mudslinging campaign to tarnish the image of Jeer Swamy and some others
All these years running centuries this site failed to evoke any interest among Desikar Sishyas nor any reverence. During the days of Sri Vedantha Desikar all the four Uthira Streets were of ‘Mandapams’ complex and this served as the common place for ‘Kalakshepams’ and other similar activities initiated by eminent scholars. Desikar enjoyed a great reputation as he commanded a large number of followers who attended his ‘Kalaskshepams’ viz. Sri Bhashyam, Srimad Rahasy Thraya Saram etc. The so called ‘Mandapams’ suited only for this and they never catered the residential purpose of vedic Brahmins. They are open with no doors at all hence no privacy. On the other hand the residences of Chithirai streets were of thatched roof were ideal for the smooth outlet of smoke emanating from agni rituals conducted both mornings and evenings. Of course the scorching summer had little impact on the inmates. This how we have to imagine the bygone days of Desikar.
( To be continued )
Hi, in your message, you have mentioned that this building has no heritage value. Do u have any proof's for that, nor the Mutt has any thing to prove. If the buildings on the Uthira street are used for Kalakshepams and other religious purpose, then it should have some heritage value which may be used by great srivaishnava acharyas and scholars even though we assume that Swami Vedanta Desika does not lived here. So in my opinion the building should be preserved without demolishing it. That thirumaligai is a strong old building with strong pillars, beams etc. We are preserving Bharathiyar house in chennai, Annadurai house, and many other buildings as a heritage. Why cant we protect and preserve this one which in ur your opinion was just used for Kalakshepams. Keeping aside whether this building was residential for Swami Desikan or not, as a srivaishnava, it is our duty to protect and preserve any structure in Srirangam where our great acharyas, scholars lived and propagated Srivaishnavisam.
ReplyDeleteI am on the same opinion of Mr.Koshal Ram.

In Tamil article they say that Krishna Prasad, Mutt agent came but was cheated. If that is so why Sri.seshadri was threatened of life, why did they send goondas to attack him twice. Everyone knows Asuri Madhavachar and his behavior in Andavan Ashramam. What will he do? naturally he ll do all bad things for monetary purpose and to prove his superiority. Krishna Prasad never spoke properly in court and they wanted to threaten and take the place and not by winning over it properly. There are enough proofs to prove it is desikan thirumaligai.
